composer’s corner

This is a new project dedicated to showcasing my original compositions for fingerstyle guitar. I’ve included some of my older tunes that have been favorites of my students and workshop attendees over the years. I’m also posting some of my newer and never heard before music. My compositions run the gamut of influences from traditional folk, ragtime, blues, jazz and modern. I hope fingerstyle enthusiasts will enjoy digging into or just listening to and sharing with others in the community. 

The first five pieces on Composer’s Corner are going to focus on my original compositions in open D tuning D,A,D,F#,A,D. They all have a very different feel and explore the nuances you might not expect from open tunings.  

The first one is called "Watch Pot"  This is the opening track on my latest recording Migration. It's in the key of D. I consider it a modern rag with three distinct sections.

The second piece is new and will be on my next recording project. It's called "Between The Two." Even though It was written in open D tuning, it's in the key of A and has a much different sound and feel than most pieces you would hear in open D just by virtue of being in a different tonal center of the key of A.
